What's on at The Bolingey Inn

10th BOLINGEY BEER AND BANGERS FESTIVAL

The beautiful 17th century Bolingey Inn near Perranporth is holding it’s three day celebration of beer and local food from Friday 12th – Sunday 14th April.

The Bolingey Beer and Bangers Festival goes from strength to strength this year will be our 10th festival and we will be featuring  17 real ales and a few ciders along with a wide selection of Cornish sausages and local cheeses.  We will be show casing eight different local sausage and mash specials over the whole weekend, along side a traditional roast on Sunday. All of our sausages are made a  Vealls the Butcher’s.

Situated in the quiet hamlet of Bolingey, the Inn has the Casque Mark of Real Ale Award and has been listed this year for the first time in the Good Beer Guide, a must for all real ale drinkers.

A full weekend of entertainment with folk singer Tom Dale on Friday 12th,  Saturday night sees the return of the popular Stamp and Go and also a  local band Splan and we will traditionally finish up the weekend with Hogwash on Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm.

The food is freshly prepared using vegetables grown in the Bolingey's very own vegetable garden and all of the meat used at the Bolingey  is local including Lamb from just across the road in Farmer Damien’s field, Beef and Pork from Veal’s, St Cloumb Road and Turkeys from Trevilley Farm, Newquay.

For a different style Christmas Menu try Sisin Bar and Kitchen in Truro

Over the Christmas period, to ensure our customers experience everything Sisin has to offer we are running a tasting menu for all parties over 6 people. This tasting menu creates an individual experience as opposed to just a meal. You get an equivalent amount of food to a three course meal, plus some extra, incorporating tapas size portions for you all to share. The meal comes out in waves of unique and exciting dishes that give you and your diners an opportunity to experience and enjoy all our Japanese menu has to offer.

There are two options with the tasting menu;

Menu A which is £27.50 a head (different price for lunch), includes many of our most popular and delicious dishes for example our delicately flavoured Tuna sashimi and our hand made Gyoza (panfried chicken dumplings with a sweet soy dipping sauce). This menu comprises of 7 different courses plus rice dishes. More than enough to satisfy that Christmas spirit!

Menu B is our more luxury option, it includes 9 different courses plus our fantastic and highly acclaimed Sisin sweet selection, definitely not to be missed. The sweet selection includes a ginger creme brule with a wasabi praline, a blood orange sorbet and a banana tempura with caramel sauce, plus a few more to tantalise your tastebuds!

The savoury part of this menu includes Crispy Skin Seabass with ponzu sauce, Tataki beef fillet (finely sliced fillet of beef, beautifully succulent and stunningly flavoured) and our ever increasingly popular Hotategai and belly pork dish (breaded scallops and belly pork accompanied with 3 different asian salsa's, genuinely a gorgeous dish). This menu is £35 a head (again different at lunch) and truly an experience to remember.

If all this doesn't get you excited, don't forget our amazing cocktail selection. After you meal why not try some of our expertly mixed concoctions, definitely a perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.

CORNISH PUBS SCOOP TASTE OF THE WEST AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

Some of the county’s finest pubs are celebrating their recent success in the Taste of the West’s revered South West Flavour Awards that recognise dedication and excellence of the highest, customer-pleasing quality.

Established to commemorate the pubs’ superior standards in hospitality and retail, The Halsetown Inn received the rare and coveted Gold Award, while a trio of others – The Turks Head in Penzance, The Queen’s Arms in Breage, and The Coldstreamer Inn in Gulval – all gained Silver Awards.

With judging criteria such as service, meal and food preparation quality alongside ambience, staff knowledge and local/regional produce sourcingit’s no wonder why these top pubs – renowned in the area for their tasty, fresh food and superb customer service – were named as winners in the Dining Pub category.

Promoting only the best of the region’s produce,Taste of the West’s stringent guidelines in identifying the industry’s leaders is testament to each individual pub’s commitment to delivering a distinctive menu packed with local flavour that’s as well sourced as it is a treat for the tastebuds.

Independently assessed by a panel of anonymous, expert judges who looked at every minutiae and more importantly – the pub’s ability to source local, traceable and fresh produce while demonstrating a keen appreciation of its benefit to their business and customers, meant that they were objectively merited for their devoted practices of quality control and excellence.

Taste for yourself the fantastic flavours of award winning food by visiting any of the pubs thatcombated strong competition in order to receive their much-deserved awards.

Set in the stunning countryside surrounds fringing St Ives, the Halsetown Inn is both dog and family-friendly, offering everything from small bites to magnificent mains such as their famous Halsetown burger or hand line caught fish of the day.

Similarly, the characterful Turks Head sits on one of Penzance’s oldest streets, offering al fresco or indoors dining via a mix of delights from Green Thai monkfish curry to vegetable moussaka.

For a true village welcome, the Coldstreamer Inn is the place to be, providing sleek restaurant interiors alongside its traditional pub area. Feast on anything from guinea fowl to salmon and steak – all cooked and seasoned to perfection; and satisfy sweet teeth with a heady dose of hot chocolate fondant or buttermilk panna cotta.

Beamed ceilings and open fireplaces set a spellbinding scene at the Queen’s Arms, where visitors can enjoy an eclectic menu that serves every taste. Fresh fish from Newlyn, organicCornish vegetables and meat from a local butcher all feature on their mouth-watering menu.

All boasting a unique setting and distinctive atmosphere, these menus serve an inspired mix of meals flanked by first-rate service, friendly staff and fabulous surrounds, hosting regular entertainment and events where customer satisfaction is core and their stellar reputation now looks set to soar even higher.
