Go on, give those pubs a medal
GET SET for The Summer Of Our Lives – a brilliant host of unique events across Cornwall's pub scene that will inspire, enthral and entertain during 2012's exciting summer season.
The festivities will kick off at the Prince of Wales in Falmouth, The Lion and Lamb in Ashton and Rising Sun in Truro, pictured, where a series of theme events will welcome the Olympic Torch in superb style.
It will be passing the front door of The Lion and Lamb on Saturday morning which will make a great place to stop to watch from the front patio of the pub, where staff will be serving a gold, silver and bronze breakfast.
With the Prince of Wales planning eight unique events, its jam-packed schedule will ensure a feast of action beginning when the Olympic Torch passes the pub. Launching events with a gold, silver and bronze buffet alongside the start of the pub's treasure hunt – pub-goers will be invited to collect as many different items from all the countries that take part in the Olympics to win a prize.
For the jubilee weekend they will present a ration-style menu on June 2, 4, 5 and on June 3 will serve a big lunch for the community and locals. Monday, June 4 welcomes the monthly ladies' night, which will take the fabulous form of a Queen's tea party, featuring mouth-watering cakes and old music.
During Euro 2012, all matches will be shown including Ireland's introductory game on Sunday, June 10, with Irish music between 5pm and 7pm, Irish food and karaoke. Party day is planned for the Olympic opening, incorporating a five-ring challenge of pub games – to discover who is the ultimate pub game champion. British food fortnight (July 27 to August 10) welcomes back their gold, silver and bronze menus, while as part of the Great British Beer Festival they will be holding their own event from August 9 to 12.
Meanwhile, the Rising Sun in Truro will be celebrating the torch passing the bottom of Mitchell Hill around 12.30pm – the perfect place for a commemorative lunch. The Diamond Jubilee heralds the Big Lunch on June 3 and a garden party on June 4, where lucky visitors can have their picture taken with the Queen.
In addition, all the Euro 2012 matches will be shown with sweepstakes, food offers and a football quiz. A Bar Olympics competition will search out the best bar game player while a beach-theme party night will start the Olympics festivities in a crowd-pleasing style on Saturday, July 28.
The Trelowarren Arms and the village of Budock Water will be joining together to celebrate the diamond jubilee.
It will be one to remember with live music on June 2 and 3 with Graham Hart and Unsung Heroes at the pub and a picnic in the park on June 4. They will be showing all of the sport over the summer with more events throughout the season.
